Kids Feeding Kids — Sofia's Story
by Sofia Silva, at age 9
It started with being ungrateful. I was hungry and wanted to go to a fast food place. My mom said that we had leftovers in the refrigerator. I didn't want that. My mom said that there were starving kids in Africa that would be grateful to even have food. I said we had to come up with ideas on how to send the kids food. I wanted to feed the kids.
After that, I wanted to make plans to go to a local ceramics café. That's when I came up with the idea to make bowls that we could auction at a gala for HUGS. My friends, family, classmates and church could help. We could all paint bowls. I thought that it would be great that people could buy the bowls and every time they saw their empty bowls they could remember there are kids who are hungry in Africa. The money from the bowls would buy the food for the kids in Africa.
I am excited that not only Annet (our sponsored "little sister") but many kids can be fed. That's when I came up with "Kids Feeding Kids".
Sofia's Story Continues...
For the past 2 years, I have developed ways to raise money for the kids in Uganda. This year, I am planning to have a "Bake Sale" to raise money to build a bakery in western Uganda, on land donated to a women’s group by a local church. This bakery will generate income and empower the local women to better care for their families.
We will be holding two bake sales -- in the Eastlake area of Chula Vista. Dates and Time will be announced soon. Please check back.
