2004 Mission Trip to Bulanga
January 10, 2005 - During the months of August through October of 2004, Victoria Gibson, President of Helping Ugandans Grow Stronger, Inc. (HUGS), conducted her most recent missionary trip to the village of Bulanga in Uganda's Rakai District. HUGS and HCCP have undertaken a joint project to build educational facilities and housing for the orphans of Bulanga.
The purpose of Vicky's visit was to assess needs, observe progress, register children for sponsorship, and develop plans for future cooperation. With HUGS' help, the staff of HCCP has had many accomplishments over the past year, including the construction of new facilities, the establishment of three local women's groups, and provision for a growing number of HIV/AIDS-affected orphans. The women's groups are now planting crops, raising farm animals, and selling craftwork to help support children in the community.
On this visit, Vicky was joined by three HUGS volunteers. These individuals shared their medical and educational expertise in assistance to HCCP efforts, and they helped register many children for sponsorship. Vicky and the volunteers also took time to go on safari for three days in the African wilderness.
