Gala Fundraiser Held at On Broadway in San Diego
May 5, 2006 - Helping Ugandans Grow Stronger, Inc. (HUGS) held its third annual gala fundraiser in "The Vault" at the fabulous On Broadway Event Center & Night Club in downtown San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter on Saturday, April 29, 2006.
This year's fun-filled evening featured casino-style gaming, a silent auction, hors d'oeuvres, plus admission to the night club for music and dancing after the gala. Over 100 guests were in attendance, and each had an opportunity to speak with HUGS colleague Pastor Fred Matovu, Program Director for Hope Child Care Program (HCCP) of Uganda.
The evening raised money to build a much-needed water well on HCCP property, plus "boys' quarters" to house AIDS/HIV-affected children in the Rakai District of southern Uganda. A display of children's photos, along with personal testimonies from the HUGS Board of Dierctors, resulted in sponsorship commitments for 20 children. The event, organized by HUGS director Sue Silva, met all goals and was deemed the best HUGS gala held to date.
