HUGS Announces "Kids Feeding Kids"

January 4, 2007 - Helping Ugandans Grow Stronger, Inc. (HUGS) is pleased to announce a new program that enables children in the USA to help children in Africa. Created by 9-year-old Sofia Silva of Chula Vista, California, the "Kids Feeding Kids" program partners with local arts & crafts businesses to turn a child's creativity into much-needed food for impoverished children in southern Uganda.

The first event will be held on February 8th, 2007, at the Daydreams Ceramic Café located in the Eastlake Village Marketplace in Chula Vista. At the café, attendees will purchase and paint ceramic bowls that will be auctioned at the annual HUGS Spring Gala on April 28th. Daydreams will donate 20% of the sale price of each bowl to HUGS, and this will be combined with 100% of the auction proceeds to buy food for children in the village of Bulanga in the Rakai District of Uganda.

"I thought that it would be great that people could buy the bowls and every time they saw their empty bowls they could remember there are kids who are hungry in Africa", said Sofia. "The money from the bowls would buy the food for the kids in Africa."

"Sofia's initiative could not have come at a more urgent time", said Victoria Gibson, President and Founder of HUGS. "Uganda was hit by a severe drought in 2006 and the children have suffered greatly from a lack of food and clean water. The Kids Feeding Kids program will help save children from malnutrition, disease and even death."

If you are interested in hosting a Kids Feeding Kids event in your area, please e-mail your inquiry to Sofia's mom, Sue Silva. For additional information, call HUGS toll-free at 888-766-4847.
