New Water Well Delivers

August 16, 2007 - Helping Ugandans Grow Stronger, Inc. (HUGS) is pleased to announce the completion of a new water well on the property of Hope Child Care Program (HCCP) of Uganda. The bore hole and pump were financed through t-shirt sales and donations from the Halfway There project of Youth with a Mission (YWAM) San Diego, with help from Eastlake Community Church of Chula Vista, California.

The timing of this new well could not have been better. Southern Uganda had suffered a severe drought that had depleted all of HCCP's rainwater reserves. Drinking water had to be trucked in at considerable cost. Crop production and construction projects slowed as water became more and more expensive to obtain. The new well has alleviated these problems and eliminated the need to purify drinking water from the storage tanks.

"Our previous attempts to provide a well for the children were met with higher than expected costs for the deep drilling necessary to overcome drought conditions," said Victoria Gibson, President of HUGS. "Now that the well is finished, there is plenty of fresh, clean water for the kids, and HCCP's 10,000 gallon rainwater storage system is able to supply other needs such as farming, livestock and construction."

HUGS thanks YWAM and Eastlake Church for improving the health of the children in Bulanga by providing this new source of fresh water. For more information, call HUGS toll-free at 888-766-4847.
